Tigerchild was set up by two mothers, Jocelyn James and Carolyn St Aubyn.

We built the site to be one we would like to use ourselves. In raising our children we always had a few projects on the go, from getting to grips with the school system and deciding whether or not to give the MMR to organising a birthday party.

What was consistently time consuming was getting the inside track on a subject, and time was something we never had. It almost became harder when the Internet arrived because we knew the information was out there but sifting through it became a task in itself.

So this is what we have tried to do for you. On each of the topics we cover we have researched the resources. We have tried to give a thorough overview of each subject, the inside track information, and have guided you on to the experts for the detail. We have not limited ourselves to online information: sometimes you will see a phone number and address.

We have started with around 90 topics and over one hundred medical conditions and we link to over one thousand other sites. There are lots more topics we would like to cover over the coming months. In general we have tried to start with the subjects with the widest relevance (and some we just felt needed covering). We rely on you to tell us what is missing and what you would like to see.

We hope that some of our subjects will provoke discussion, or perhaps you would like to start your own ball rolling. Whatever you want to raise, our message boards are waiting for your contributions.

The site is financed by private investment.

RESEARCH

Our information has been written and researched by a team headed by Alex Sapirstein. Many of our researchers are specialists in their areas and we believe they have provided valuable insights. Their wide-ranging research continues.

M.R.C.P. (paeds.) – Member of the Royal College of Physicians in Paediatrics,

She also has a degree level qualification in Genetics.
